Inspiring Talent For A Better World

Be the Boss?

For those currently studying for an MBA or other business qualification, one of the biggest questions will be, do I work for an employer or set up in business myself? It really is a tough choice and you have to weigh up the pros and cons of both carefully before coming to your final decision.

If you set up your own business you obviously have control over what goes on, you choose your own business cars and take the greatest profit from the business. In theory it also gives you more flexibility over what hours you work. You gain the most satisfaction from something you have set up yourself. You really are the Boss!

However, you also bear the risks and responsibilities! The risks of not finding work or clients, the risks of not being paid by customers and the risks of not being able to pay your own bills. You will also probably find that you will end up working all the hours possible just to stay afloat. Some new graduates start off by working for an employer to gain experience and then setting up themselves after a few years when they have a working rather than theoretical knowledge of business matters.

It is a tough call and it also depends heavily on what type of person you are, but if you really want to be the Boss, go for it!
