Inspiring Talent For A Better World
The most important thing in our world is money, especially when it comes to comparing countries' currencies against one another. In the United Kingdom, the one country that matters the most when comparing currency is the United States.
US Dollars exchange rates determine the price of imports and exports in the United Kingdom and other countries. Because the United States is the biggest importer and exporter of goods, their currency is viewed as the bench mark for all other currencies.
Many leaders of businesses prefer to handle monetary transactions in American currency rather than their own nation’s currency because US money is worth more. Businesses have had to adapt their strategies because of fluctuating exchange rates, these rates vary each day which is why it is very important to stay current with monetary policy. (more...)
It is amazing how many people seem to start businesses without the necessary planning and procedures. They are so caught up in the business idea that they forget the vital details. All businesses have to be built on solid foundations without which they are shaky at best and illegal or downright dangerous at worst.
Things such as public liability insurance, employee insurance or car insurance Canada are prime examples of this type of omission. People think of insurance as unglamorous and many neglect to take the necessary precautions – but good and comprehensive insurance is vital for any business.
A good accounting system is also important for any fledgling business. It is better to get it right from the start as it will be much harder to correct one year down the line. A proper knowledge of accounting procedures and software will ensure that there are no nasty surprises with the taxman later. (more...)
Learning’s not like it was when I was a kid! We had books – usually smelling slightly of dust and age. There were libraries, with more books. There was the news at the cinema. And, there were the BBC schools’ programmes. These were the highlight of the week.
Visual images were generally static and mostly black and white. Early on, even the television (which not everyone had) was black and white. We did not have videos.
Modern children are surrounded by rapidly moving images, sounds and electronic stimuli from a very early age. Increasingly, education is accessed via a computer and parents can start their toddlers learning with the use of http://www.learningonline.org . This is a system which goes on right through primary school. (more...)
The Government's scrappage scheme has proved hugely popular and has created some interesting market effects. The scheme is designed to help more people replace older, less environmentally friendly cars with more economical and greener models. It is available for those whose exchange vehicle is a passenger car or small van, was registered before 29th February 2000, has a current MOT Certificate, and is DVLA registered in your name with a UK registered address.
On 28 September 2009, the government announced plans for a further £100 million funding for the scrappage scheme. This meant that the scheme will now cover up to 400,000 vehicles. There have been fears that this will cause a price rise in used vehicles but that has not proved to be the case. However, by removing such a large number of vehicles from the market it has caused a shortage of vehicles which, in some sectors, has caused a few problems for those seeking to change their vehicles.
Also, most drivers who offer their cheap uk used cars for sale to the market which are more than 10 yrs old, are not new car buying customers. This, of course, is a general assumption but seems to be borne out by the fact that those buyers keen to take part are opting for smaller, economical models of which there is a shortage. (more...)
Many people have their houses full of trinkets and memorabilia from every corner of the world, including France. A visit there wouldn't be complete without Paris souvenirs to help preserve the memories, maybe of a weekend in the world’s most romantic city – Paris.
There are hundreds, if not thousands, of street vendors around the city and at most of the big attractions, who spread their wares on the pavement and ceaselessly bark at you to buy. Whilst some would suggest you avoid them because there are plenty of shops that sell souvenirs of higher quality and better prices, there is fun to be had in negotiating and haggling over a price and this will add to your memories.
The business of selling Souvenirs of Paris is huge and covers an unlimited range of items. Whilst most people probably buy on impulse when they are in situ, others will not wish to have the extra baggage. A huge number of internet sites have sprung up to meet this demand so that folks can buy after they have returned home. (more...)
Finding the right premises for one’s company or business can be a complicated procedure. Many areas have little available and some have only a limited choice.
For the business person looking for an office to rent Cardiff, South Wales , the choice is almost staggering. The city has facilities to provide for almost any kind of business in a number of specially developed business areas.
Many premises have been purpose-built as part of the redevelopment of the city centre and old dockland areas. All the properties are modern, fully equipped and often offer a number of secondary services to the business. (more...)
Though the UK economy has finally crept out of a prolonged recession, the current forecasts are decidedly inauspicious. To begin with, the economy only grew by an anaemic 0.1% last quarter, which was less than expected. Job growth has also been slow or nonexistent.
While the unemployment rate did drop by 0.1% to 7.8%, that is 1.6% higher than last year. At present, well over 2.5 million people are out of work in the UK. This number is not expected to fall anytime soon as economists have predicted that UK jobs will be stagnant for the foreseeable future.
These numbers, as inconclusive as they may seem, have had a profound effect on the way people in the UK live their lives, especially young people. In fact, many students have been forced to reevaluate their career goals in light of the poor economy and the battered job market. Instead of taking their time and figuring out what they want to do with their lives, many students are simply seeking a programme of study that will help them secure employment when they graduate. That is why universities all over the UK have reported a substantial increase in the number of students that are applying to business schools. (more...)

Our world has shrunk incredibly fast in the past few decades, not geographically but metaphorically. Before the advent of the internet or telephone, the only way in which you could get in contact with someone was either face to face or through a letter. These letters would in most cases take months to reach their desired destinations and then more months to get a reply.
The advent of the internet and global business solutions has made our world feel like it is a single entity. We can now send information across the globe in a matter of seconds and receive a response in a matter of minutes.
Instead of calling Perth, Australia for prices on flights we can now search the internet for flights to Perth and book it online. The expansion of global business and the continued evolution of the internet have made all of our lives easier. (more...)
Voice over IP is a new and popular technology that is used to make cheap international calls. VoIP calls can be placed between two computers or between a computer and a telephone. The call is established over the internet connection which is why it is called voice over internet protocol.
If you check the rates of any internet phone service provider you will notice that internet calls are in general much cheaper than international calls through calling cards and other methods. Why are internet calls cheaper than others?
VoIP calls convert the analogue signal of the voice from one end into a digital signal. This digital signal is then sent over the web connection to the destination device, whether it is a computer or a VoIP hand held device. The signal on reaching the destination is converted back into an audio signal. (more...)
For those currently studying for an MBA or other business qualification, one of the biggest questions will be, do I work for an employer or set up in business myself? It really is a tough choice and you have to weigh up the pros and cons of both carefully before coming to your final decision.
If you set up your own business you obviously have control over what goes on, you choose your own business cars and take the greatest profit from the business. In theory it also gives you more flexibility over what hours you work. You gain the most satisfaction from something you have set up yourself. You really are the Boss!
However, you also bear the risks and responsibilities! The risks of not finding work or clients, the risks of not being paid by customers and the risks of not being able to pay your own bills. You will also probably find that you will end up working all the hours possible just to stay afloat.
Some new graduates start off by working for an employer to gain experience and then setting up themselves after a few years when they have a working rather than theoretical knowledge of business matters. (more...)
Though the unemployment rate in the UK continues to rise, some sectors of the economy have shown improvement. As the driving engine of the economy, business recruitment began to rise shortly after the recession came to an end. Educators at business schools across the UK have noticed an increase in on-campus recruiting, especially for MBA jobs.
In addition to a slight economic improvement, there is another reason why recruitment has increased. Quite simply, today's graduates are more qualified than they have ever been. Due mostly to the recession, many of these students choose to stay in school rather than entering a weak job market. As a result, many of them have MBAs and advanced degrees.
Business graduates who have a background or experience in technology, energy and telecoms are in particularly high demand. The consulting sector has also experienced a nice bump in recent months, unlike the car industry. (more...)
School taught me many things. I learnt how to add up, speak English properly; I studied a couple of useful modern languages as well as some interesting but useless ancient ones. I learnt about capital cities and rock formations but sadly to say I never learnt the rudiments of business at my school and this is something I have had to pick up myself with varying degrees of success.
Whilst I landed a job as a business person and was quite successful in this role for many years, it is quite a different case in point when you are negotiating or marketing as a job and when you are doing it for yourself.
My main priority in all these years has been how to provide for my retirement and while this is still some way off, it is a never ending quest. What is the best way to go about it? Property? Very tempting to buy a leaseback in France or a property in Italy and it is still something to be considered. (more...)
